1) New Developments in
Orthodontics - The Timing of Treatment
The timing of orthodontic treatment is an important
but controversial issue in clinical practice. Considerations of
effectiveness and efficiency should be incorporated in clinical decision
making. The evidence for a benefit from timing treatment for different
classes of malocclusion will be reviewed and the indications for early
treatment suggested.
2) New Approaches to
the Management of Class II Malocclusion
Recent developments in Orthodontics, such as the
introduction of temporary skeletal anchorage have greatly increased the
treatment options. However, these have not simplified clinical decisions
making. The increase in number of alternative approaches emphasizes the
importance of establishing appropriate treatment goals for Class II
patients. This remains one of the greatest challenges for the
Orthodontist. The relative roles of growth modification, camouflage or
surgical correction will be discussed and alternative treatment
mechanics illustrated.
