Rules, Tools & Strategies for Successful Cosmetic Dentistry

Day One - A Comprehensive 4 part lecture on

  1. Getting it right from the outset

Correct assessment is essential to aesthetic dentistry. We will begin by looking at smile design to learn how to visualise what we want to create, and we will also look at how to assess how difficult a case is likely to be based on this.

  1. Foundational skills for indirect aesthetic dentistry

Every indirect case involves a high level of communication between the dentist and the technician. In this session we will discuss how to utilize your technician to his full potential via s diagnostic wax-up as out "blue print for success". The impression is a vital part of the communication with the technician; yet it is often poorly done due to limitation in the single stage putty / wash technique that is commonly used. We will examine alternative techniques that give excellent impressions time after time. Another vital area is the provisional restoration. If done correctly, these will give the patient a preview of what they can expect fro the final restorations. Finally, we will look at how to choose the right ceramic for our restorations before discussing how to fit and finish the case.

  1. The other important factors in aesthetic dentistry

Occlusion is the key to successful long term treatment. Many failures can be attributed to mismanagement of occlusal forces. Tissue managements is as important and we will discuss the issues of gingival biotypes and biologic width and how these factors influence the options we have in the treatment plan.

  1. Veneers - Putting theory into practice

To put our newly-learned skills into practice we will look at some straightforward veneer cases at each stage of their execution - from smile design to fitting.
