As part of SDA’s efforts to contribute to a
sustainable environment, we are planning to distribute our Annual Report for Year
2009/2010 substantially paperless. Therefore, we will distribute a CD-ROM
containing the Annual Report to all members.
We hope that members will support this effort to
reduce the usage of paper and the energy consumption related to the printing
and distributing of the Annual Report. In addition, this will lead to cost
savings for us as ultimately the Association belongs to ourselves.
Some members may prefer the traditional print copy and
may request for one, at no cost, by completing the form below. If we do not
receive your Request Form by Friday 26th February 2010, it will be
assumed that you do not wish to receive the print copy of the Annual Report for
Year 2009/2010 and for future years.
Some members may even further reduce the cost and
carbon footprint by opting to download the Annual Report in PDF version from
the SDA website. Please indicate if you do not wish to receive either the print
copy or the CD-ROM.

Synopsis
Impacted teeth occur very commonly in the mouth. Third molars or
wisdom teeth are the most familiar ones to the dental surgeon. Each one must
be evaluated carefully, balancing risks associated with their retention against
the risks posed by their surgical removal. With proper diagnosis and treatment
planning, difficult third molars that warrant removal can be safely excised or
extracted without posing risks to the patient.
In this evening seminar, the aim is to provide general dental
practitioners with relevant information for the diagnosis and treatment
planning of difficult third molar teeth. Complications are usually rare if
proper treatment planning and surgical techniques are adopted. However,
complications can still occur at times. Those commonly encountered are alveolitis, postoperative infections, bleedings, maxillary
sinus complications and postoperative prolonged anaesthesia. Prompt and proper
management will usually lead to a better outcome for both operator and patient.
Surgical techniques and management of the commonly encountered complications
will be discussed.
